2nd is the Best!

29 Nov

We are sososo happy to announce that we’ve won 2nd place in the One of a Kind Exhibitor’s Art competition! Exhibitors were asked to interpret the theme of “love” in their own particular medium. See the OOAK’s blog entry about the winning pieces here.

We asked our fans on facebook to come up with some works of places/people/things/etc. that came to mind when they thought of the word LOVE. We got a lot of responses so thanks so much, you lovely fans you!

Here’s the final piece along with a description:

Our design was inspired by drawing connections from different fragments of words that combine together to create the idea of love. The words placed on each individual 1″ button (a medium commonly used for the promotion of messages, beliefs, interests and ideas) were collected from a group of random people’s interpretations of what the word love means to them. The words range from places to people, things, feelings, etc. We arranged all of the individual pieces into the iconic shape of the heart and included bits and pieces of the colour red to reiterate the idea of love. Although forming from a group of random words and ideas, the viewer is able to draw connections from the fragments and evoke their own thoughts and ideas of love.

Take Me Home

9 Oct

Last night we took a quick run downtown to bang off some errands. Our pal Steph kindly let us borrow her fog machine so we could take some creepy Halloween photos (will be posted soon) so we returned that to her and also dropped off a bag of old P0isson shirts to Xenia who has organized a really great clothing swap this Sunday at Mercer Union, check out the event details here! We would be going if we didn’t have Thanksgiving festivities to attend to.

While we were down we popped into Le Gallery where our friend Genevieve Jodouin was having an opening for her solo show Take Me Home. As usual, her work was beautiful. Once you step into the gallery you are surrounded by delicate screen-printed paper mobiles, spinning and twisting from the movement of people walking by.

See? Magical.

This is our friend Nick who we took a sneaky photo of while he was probably having an important conversation about art. He had some work in the group show The Maker which was taking place in the other half of the gallery. He is a pretty ok artist I guess, but you can see for yourself here (we kid, he’s amazing).

This is Genevieve looking cute. Congrats on your show girlfriend!

We got caught up in some traffic around Dundas square on the way home. Rose suddenly had the munchies for some street meat. We were barely moving so she got out to get one from the corner. I had only moved up a block by the time she got back, but alas, no hot dog in hand due to a crazy lineup. Moral of the story: Dundas street, you need more street meat vendors.

LTD edition prints

25 Apr

Last night was the As Much As Possible/Free North Press show at Minnow & Bass gallery. Nice space, saw a lot of old familiar faces. The boys of FNP had their work in the main gallery, a selection of lino and woodcut prints. One of the walls was covered in the lino/fibreboard/wood blocks used for printing. Which was interesting because although they’re essentially tools for making the final art print, they’re quite beautiful on their own.

In the smaller gallery was the show organized by the ABRAWD girls in which we had our prints and a personal piece I submitted. The walls were covered with works from ceiling to floor, there was so much to look at. I took in as much as I could before a crowded-and-rubbing-against-strangers-bodies induced art-show-anxiety-attack could take hold.

Can you spot the crywolf?

Eventually we want to do more editions of art prints of our designs. But right now I must attend to some pressing issues ie. cutting my jeans into shorts because it’s THAT HOT OUT right now. partay!
