Never Cry Wolf

First off, sorry for the slow updates lately! I have no idea where the summer went!!! June and July just zipped right by. We’ve been busy coming up with new ideas and products and right now we are starting to prep for the CNE, so this time of year is always a little wild! Now until Christmas will be busybusybusy.

The second week of July I spent up North for an annual family trip to Parry Sound. And by family, I mean almost my ENTIRE family. 10 people, 2 dogs. It was the first time both Rose & I were gone from Crywolf Headquarters but I managed to get some sewing done up there as well as take advantage of the nice scenery for some promo shots.

On Thursday I’m headed out into the wilderness again for one last break before the madness really begins. While I’m gone, Rose returns from Texas and then we hopefully will see a bunch of you at the CNE where we’ll have a whole bunch of cool new stuff for ya! We’ll be posting the facebook event info soon.

For the first time EVER, Crywolf will be on vacation for a week, so we will not be able to ship shirts out! We always try our best to ship shirts out pretty much as soon as we can, even if that means trips to the post office every single day, because we know, first hand, how much it sucks to wait for things to come in the mail. With that said we are giving away complimentary shipping on anything ordered this upcoming week from July 9 (fri) til July 16 (fri), but all orders will be shipped out Monday, July 19th.

Rose & Steph

There is nothing we love better than being able to support good friends, especially when it comes to art/music/craft/performance/etc. We have experienced first-hand the incredible generosity of friends and family. As one example, their support has sometimes made the difference between a good and bad show for us and we are so humbled by and eternally grateful for the support and kindness we have been shown over the years. Nobody can ever make it out to every event or have money to spare at all times, but when we do it’s always a nice feeling to put it towards our community and to peers and friends who are working on incredible things.

When we started out as p0isson, we both agreed that we wanted to invest some money into art that we both loved and wanted as a mutual art collection. It started with us collecting animal themed pieces and went from there. We brought home our newest addition today, Nas by our very talented pal Nik Dudukovic. Check his stuff out!

This weekend I decided to make  my way down to Pedestrian Sunday in the Market to watch our good pal Steph belly dance on the street with her troupe, Serpentina. They drew a crowd as usual and were awesome. Steph was nervous but she kicked serious butt (as usual). I always feel like a proud mama when I see her perform.

There was so much twirling and swirling going on that I couldn’t get a frontal shot. At one point she lost her shoe (and necklace to boot) so I was trying to get a photo of her feet for lols but that didn’t really work out either.

All in all it was a really great weekend and I’m sad that it’s over but as the song goes…

Each and every one of our designs end up evolving to some degree from the original drawing. Together we decide to modify add and/or omit certain elements. Here was the original other half of our Boom Boom pug t-shirt:

We both agreed that the poor legless Boston Terrier was a bit too sad (although funny as hell).

We were going to save BT for another design but she never came into play. Instead she went on to star with J Lo in the latest RomCom of 2010, The Back-Up Plan:

We called to congratulate her but she was all, “talk to my publicist”. Sigh!

Just wanted to share our first psuedo experience and some thoughts on Johnny Cupcakes.

We have been long time followers of the Johnny Cupcakes brand. We really respect the ideas and the ideology behind the brand and would definitely say he is a big inspiration to all small business folks. As with any field of business, it’s important to look at the top players and try to learn a bit about what they do to make & keep themselves successful.

Anyway, yesterday was their Houston stop of a suitcase tour he is doing across the country. Lots of young hipster ppl lined up in the streets. I recruited my boyfriend who lives in Houston to check it out for himself (while I would live vicariously through him). So with that said, here is our pseudo experience of the Johnny Cupcakes brand and Johnny Cupcakes himself!

Upon arrival a little before 8pm there was already a huge line up of people waiting to see/meet/buy J. Cupcakes! Seeing the van and everything was pretty exciting.

Not really sure how they meant to set it up but after about an hour of waiting, the line had not moved.

Some people got a little restless and left, but most were still there and there was still a huge line. After about an hour and a half of waiting in the line, I was thinking Wow this is insane! It reminded me of going to clubs back in the day (lol..we had to do it at least once)  how they made people wait outside to get in so a huge line builds up, and once you get in you realize the club is empty.

After 2 hours it was quitting time. During that time, the line never really moved – the only reason it did because people were leaving – kind of an anti-climactic ending to an exciting beginning.

We’re not really sure what the point of making people wait that long was. Maybe he was spending quality time with each and every one of his customers, but as sweet as a cupcake should be, this experience kind of left a salty taste in our mouths.

With that said, being a successful business man/celebrity, he seemed like a nice guy!

The end.

We just ended a very hard week! We started off the week with a very exciting prospect of seeing one of our shirts on a new NBC show only to find out a day later – after scrambling, and signing a release – that it wasn’t our shirt (it just had the same name)! Let’s just take a moment to laugh at that. Now let’s all sigh in unison.

That was the first thing. Then we paid for this extremely expensive week-long ad only to find out a few hours later that our site was going down periodically. We dealt with it for a day but then realized that it was happening more frequently for longer periods of time so we had to put a halt to that immediately. After a long struggle, working late into the evening & on the weekend, backing up files, downloading, uploading, and more, we have finally seem to get it fixed, stable, and up and running again! Hooray. We are always half amazed and half in shock that we, who have barely any computer/web experience, can pull of such feats.

There were some other mishaps that happened during the week but we don’t need to dwell on the past. Onto better things, we are having an Spring sale through April 11th.

Let the good times roll!

The smell of spring is in the air! Finally! We are so over the cold blahness of winter. The warm and sunny weather definitely helps get our spirits up. We were thinking at the gym today about blogging more often, and making our blog more personal rather than just Crywolf related…with that said, since we are Crywolf it will still be Crywolf related (haha)!

For the past year, we have been under a pretty rigorous workout routine, consisting of the following:

Monday – Bootcamp class
Tuesday – Cardio (Eliptical + Interval Biking)
Wednesday – Weights
Thursday – Ball class
Friday – Hot Yoga (just for the last 4 weeks)
Sunday – Hot Yoga

We will miss a day here and there but it’s been pretty consistent! We each did a 2 min self portrait of what we think about at the gym during 30 second hardcore interval biking.

Here are some personal thoughts on working out & getting in shape for the summer, that we have gathered through our experiences:

- change your workout routine so your body doesn’t get used to the same workout
- interval training (30 sec fast as you can, 30 second resting pace) helps workout your heart and lungs and will help continue burning calories after you are done (we go for 10 minutes), whereas straight cardio mainly burns calories while you are doing it.
- hot yoga makes you sweat all over (even your ears), but you feel great after
- do planks! nothing compares to planks, and if you don’t have a lot of time on your hands, planks are a great way to work out multiple body parts at once, and you do it for as long as you can (which is probably about 2-3 minutes max). Front Plank on Youtube Hope that helps you guys out!

Yesterday I received a very excited text from my cousin saying that she saw one of our shirts on an MTV commercial. At first I thought, no way, but they have one of those awesome TiVO devices and she said she recorded and rewinded it a bunch of times and was POSITIVE it was Hipster Werewolf.

She wasn’t mistaken! With minimal searching I was able to find the commercial on the magical interwebs. It’s for a contest for the Buried Life from MTV & Harveys. Check it out here while it’s still up.
